Uninsured Motorist (UM) and Underinsured Motorist (UIM) Claims in Arizona
When a driver is responsible for a car accident that results in injuries to another person, liability insurance is intended to cover the injured individual's medical expenses, lost wages, and other financial needs associated with the accident injuries.
Arizona law requires all drivers to carry minimum liability coverage of $15,000 for injuries resulting from a car accident ($15,000 for injuries to one person/$30,000 for all injuries resulting from a crash).
However, the minimum liability coverage required by Arizona law will be inadequate for people suffering from serious injuries, especially if extensive tests, surgery, inpatient hospital treatment, or rehabilitative therapy is necessary.
Underinsured motorist coverage: If the at-fault driver's liability coverage is insufficient to fully compensate you for your personal injuries, we can examine your own car insurance policy to determine if you are covered under an underinsured motorist provision. Underinsured motorist coverage provides supplemental compensation up to the policy limits.
Uninsured motorist coverage: If the at-fault driver illegally failed to carry liability coverage, or if the accident involved a hit-and-run — common in bicycle accidents and pedestrian accidents — you may be entitled to compensation under an uninsured motorist provision in your own policy. Uninsured motorist coverage provides compensation up to the policy limits when there is not liability coverage available through the at-fault driver.
